EXHIBITION – MUSIC WITH PLANTS

Music, Nature & Rhythm – Two Unique Performances, One Special Day | July 6 @ The Goodness Brewing Co.

This summer, something truly special is happening in London, a chance to witness music, art, and nature come together in ways you’ve never seen before. On Sunday, July 6, from 3pm to 8pm, JJ Events invites you to The Goodness Brewing Co. in Wood Green for a one-of-a-kind event featuring two completely different live performances, and entry is free.

This is not your typical gig. It’s a meeting point of natural science, electronic music, and live rhythm, curated for those who love creativity, connection, and discovery.

Part One: The Exhibition – A Musician Interacts Musically with Plants

Imagine walking into a softly lit room filled with beautiful living plants, but instead of just looking at them, you can actually hear them. This is the heart of the exhibition: a live performance where a musician uses technology to interact directly with plants through music.

Using sensitive biofeedback sensors, the plants’ natural electrical activity is turned into sound and melody. As the performer plays and responds, the plants “play” back. It’s a subtle, immersive, and very real conversation between human and nature, in the language of music.

This is the kind of experience that slows you down and makes you listen in a new way. It’s peaceful, thoughtful, and eye-opening. If you’ve ever wondered whether plants respond to energy, sound, or touch, this performance brings those questions to life.

Part Two: DJ Vivi Reis + Alvaro Percussion – A Deep, Organic Groove

After the gentle stillness of the exhibition, things shift gears. DJ Vivi Reis steps in to take the vibe up with a deep, melodic set, full of soulful electronic grooves and uplifting rhythms. Her style blends downtempo, tribal house, and a touch of tropical spirit, the kind of sound that gets your feet moving and your heart smiling.

But that’s not all.

Joining her live is Alvaro, a skilled percussionist whose rhythms add a warm, earthy energy to the mix. With every beat, he brings a sense of movement and storytelling, building a bridge between the digital and the organic.

Together, Vivi and Alvaro create a set that’s joyful, deep, and perfect for dancing, or just soaking up the good vibes with a drink in hand.

A Day of Sound, Soul, and Something Different

This event is about more than just music. It’s about exploring new ideas and new feelings, how technology can bring us closer to nature, and how rhythm connects us all. Whether you’re into sound healing, immersive art, dance music, or just want to spend your Sunday doing something different, this is a day to remember.

Plus, The Goodness Brewing Co. is the perfect venue for it. Great beer, a welcoming vibe, and a space that celebrates creativity.

Introduction to Musical Plant Interaction

In the heart of a growing interdisciplinary movement, a remarkable exhibition is captivating audiences worldwide: a musician performing live, not for an audience of people, but for plants, and receiving musical feedback in real time. This profound interaction between human and flora demonstrates an emerging field where botany, music, technology, and consciousness intersect in awe-inspiring harmony.

At this exhibition, the line between the performer and the environment dissolves. The plants are not passive observers; they are collaborators, responding sonically through biometric sensors that capture their subtle electrical signals and transform them into soundscapes.

The Science Behind Musical Plant Communication

Biomusicology meets phytobiology in this groundbreaking installation. Plants have long been known to react to external stimuli, light, sound, touch, but only recently has technology advanced to the point where these responses can be translated into real-time audible frequencies.

Using galvanometers and MIDI conversion systems, sensors are attached to leaves or soil. These sensors detect changes in electrical resistance, influenced by a plant’s internal bioelectrical activity. The data is fed into synthesizers and computers that convert it into harmonious tones, rhythms, and melodies.

When the musician plays nearby, on instruments such as guitar, violin, or modular synthesizers, the plant reacts: shifting tone, changing tempo, or introducing new harmonic layers. This creates a two-way musical dialogue between species.

Immersive Exhibition Design and Sensory Experience

Set in a tranquil, dimly lit room, the exhibition features carefully curated flora, from ferns and vines to succulents and flowering plants, each connected via unobtrusive biometric devices. Soft ambient lighting enhances the mood, pulsing gently with the rhythm of the plant-generated sounds.

Visitors are immersed in an environment where sound is alive, fluctuating with the collective energy of plant life. As the musician strums a chord or plays a note, plants respond in tones, ethereal, atmospheric, sometimes haunting, producing a living, breathing orchestra.

High-end audio setups surround the space, and the blend of human composition with bio-responsive soundscapes creates an unparalleled sensory journey.

Human-Plant Symbiosis in Performance

Unlike traditional music performances, this event challenges the anthropocentric view of creation. The musician becomes part of an ecosystem, attuned to non-verbal, organic communication.

The plants do not merely respond to sound; they also respond to intent, proximity, light exposure, and even emotional states. In one segment of the performance, when the musician pauses, holding a moment of silence with deep presence, the plants begin to emit more complex and emotive melodies, indicating sensitivity to subtle human cues.

This reveals a profound sensitivity and intelligence in plants, often dismissed by conventional science but now being reconsidered in light of such interactive experiments.

Technological Innovations Empowering the Experience

Several innovative tools power this experience. Among the most notable:

MIDI Sprout and PlantWave: Devices that interpret biofeedback from plants and convert it into musical notes.

Modular synths with CV inputs that respond directly to plant data streams.

Open-source software that visualizes plant signals, turning them into both audio and video.

These technologies democratize access to plant communication, allowing musicians and bioartists to co-create with nature, breaking boundaries between lifeforms and artistic mediums.

Emotional and Philosophical Impact

The exhibition is not only a technological wonder but also a deeply philosophical encounter. Attendees report feelings of wonder, interconnectedness, and even healing. The experience draws attention to the often-overlooked consciousness of plants, inviting us to consider their presence not as background scenery but as active participants in the web of life.

The implications are immense: Could this form of communication be expanded to other species? Could future music be co-composed by forests? Are we merely scratching the surface of interspecies dialogue?

These questions are not only poetic but hold potential for climate consciousness, ecological empathy, and even therapeutic practices in the future.

Bridging Art, Science, and Nature

This exhibition is part of a larger cultural shift that seeks to reconnect humans with the natural world through creative technologies. The musician-plant interaction is both a metaphor and a method: a metaphor for the harmony we must seek with our environment, and a method by which we can learn to listen, not just hear.

Future of Biophilic Music and Interspecies Collaboration

Looking ahead, the fusion of music and plant communication may evolve in exciting ways:

AI integration, where algorithms compose alongside plants and humans.

Virtual and augmented reality experiences that let users feel immersed in plant-music landscapes.

Therapeutic applications, where patients interact with responsive plant-music environments for healing.

This is not just the future of performance, it’s the future of how we perceive and engage with life itself. The seeds of this transformation have been planted, and they are singing.
